Javier Pinell
is Assistant Professor of Violin at the University of Wyoming and a member of the Lindsayan String Quartet. He was appointed Artist in Residence with the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale in Texas from 1998-2002. In addition to broad orchestral playing experience, much of which has been in the capacity as concertmaster, he performs as chamber musician, recitalist, and concerto soloist. As a scholar, Pinell has done pioneer research work on compositions for the violin by contemporary Bolivian composers. The release of the groundbreaking compact disc recording Bolivia: The Unknown Sounds in 1998, which includes much of this newly discovered repertoire, was recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Bolivian Government.

In addition to having won concerto competitions in the United States, Mr. Pinell has also received several awards including The Theodore Presser Award (on two different occasions 1989 and 1997), a National Endowment for the Arts' Chamber Music Residency Grant (1995), and the "Merit and Achievement Award" granted by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (1989) among others. Appearances at festivals include the Echternach Festival in Luxembourg, The Mosel Musik Festival in Germany, The Festival Internacional de la Cultura in Sucre, Bolivia,  The Festival Internacional de música COFES in Cochabamba, Bolivia, The Festival de Música deTrujillo in Peru, the Interlochen Center for the Arts, the Manitou festival in Michigan, The Strings in the Mountains Festival in Colorado, the Snowbird Institute in Utah among others. Mr. Pinell has also represented his country in the World Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo, Japan (1987), and in the South American Youth Orchestra in Caracas, Venezuela (1984).

Principal teachers include Karen Clarke, Eliot Chapo, Hal Grossman, and Peter Michalica. Degrees: DM Florida State University (1999), MM Miami University, Ohio (1992), BM Wayne State University (1989).

Mr. Pinell has participated in Master Classes given by Isaac Stern, Janos Starker, Jaap Schroeder, and David Updegraff. Chamber Music coaching with the Muir Quartet, Cavani String Quartet, Tokyo String Quartet, and Colorado String Quartet. He currently serves on the violin faculty at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Prior to his appointment at UW he held teaching positions at Midland College, Western Kentucky University, Earlham, and teaching assistantships at Florida State University, and Miami University.
