The UW Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble specializing in orchestral repertoire written before 1800, or in later works composed for other small, string-based combinations. These musicians can often be found accompanying UW's Collegiate Chorale or Opera Theatre ensembles as well. Direction of the Chamber Orchestra rotates between Director of Bands Dr. Robert Belser, UW Symphony Conductor Dr. Michael Griffith, and viola professor James Przygocki. Membership is by audition only.
Recent works played by the Chamber Orchestra include symphonies by Haydn and Mozart, the Purcell opera Dido and Aeneas, Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, Turina’s La Oracion del Torero, and various Baroque concerti, suites, and choral works. This year they will be playing Schubert's Symphony 5 and his Mass in G, Handel's Water Music, the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Gondoliers, concerti by Bach and Telemann, and more.
