Dr. Hamel's interests include Hispanic linguistics, Oceanic languages and linguistics, and foreign language pedagogy, especially interactive and communicative teaching techniques and teaching language for proficiency. Current research projects include a study of the Spanish language as spoken in Wyoming and comparative linguistics of the languages of the Admiralty Islands, Papua New Guinea.
