Lecture 2008: Geologic Carbon Sequestration: Who Owns the Pore Space?
On Wednesday, April 9, 2008, Owen L. Anderson, the E. George Rudolph Distinguished Visiting Chair of Law for 2008, presented the Rudolph Lecture at the University of Wyoming College of Law. The topic of the Rudolph Lecture was Geologic Carbon Sequestration: Who Owns the Pore Space?
Anderson is the Eugene Kuntz Chair in Law in Oil, Gas & Natural Resources at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He is also a Principal Research Fellow and Distinguished Lecturer at the University of Dundee and a Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne.
Anderson has been a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators since 1994. He is a Trustee of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, a Trustee of the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation, and an Advisory Board Member of the International Oil and Gas Educational Center at the Center for American and International Law. He is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, the Energy Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Oklahoma Legal Committee to the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission. Anderson is currently Vice President of Oklahoma City Mineral Lawyers Society. He serves as an Editor of the Oil and Gas Reporter, as a Commissioner for the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, and as Editor in Chief of the Texas Title Standards.
Anderson’s teaching experience includes the University of Houston, Southern Methodist University, Texas Tech University, the University of Texas, the University of Calgary, the University of Oslo, the University of Dundee, the University of Melbourne, various venues in China, Russia, and the Middle East, and his alma mater, the University of North Dakota.
His energy law experience includes general counsel to the North Dakota Industrial (Oil and Gas Conservation) Commission, general counsel to the North Dakota Board of University & School Lands, in-house lawyer for Kerr-McGee Corporation, and a legal, dispute resolution, and policy consultant to the oil and gas industry and to host governments.
He is licensed to practice law in North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Anderson is co-author of International Petroleum Transactions, a textbook on international petroleum transactions law; co-author of Hemingway Oil and Gas Law and Taxation, a one volume treatise; co-editor of Cases and Materials on Oil & Gas Law, a casebook on United States oil and gas law; co-author of annual supplements to Kuntz on Oil and Gas Law, a multi-volume treatise; and a contributing author to Waters and Water Rights, a multi-volume treatise. He is also a contributing author of a forthcoming one-volume treatise on international petroleum law. He has authored numerous articles on oil and gas law, and he is a frequent lecturer on oil and gas law and policy.
The Rudolph Chair was established in 1993 because of a generous gift from the Paul Stock Foundation to honor E. George Rudolph, who served on the UW College of Law faculty for 41 years, including eight years as dean (1971-1979).
