UW College of Law Dean's Advisory Board Member Profile:  John Daly

By Meagan K. Ciesla

Dean’s Advisory Board member John Daly attributes his pursuit of law to a book he read by Judge Brown in the 1960s.  “I come from an agricultural background,” says Daly, “and I just happened to win Brown’s book on agricultural law in a drawing, so I read it and ended up thinking it was actually pretty interesting.”

After graduating from UW College of Law in 1972, Dalywho is a rancher himselfknew that he wanted to offer his services to the ranching community.  He moved back to his native town of Gillette where he eventually formed Daly Law Associates.  The practice represents clients in commercial litigation, oil and gas, contracts, real estate transactions, domestic relations, criminal defense, and appeals.

Daly has scaled back to practicing part-time, and uses his time out of the office to travel extensively on hunting trips.  An expert hunter and trap-shooter, Daly has hunted on every continent except Australia and has won several awards from Safari Club International.  In June, Daly will take another trip abroad, this time traveling to Botswana for five weeks on an elephant-hunting excursion.
