Assistant Dean Denise Burke

 

Assistant Dean Denise Burke spoke at the Women’s Law Forum in Lander in April.  Dean Burke will be the graduation speaker for Big Piney High School on May 27.

 

Dean Burke was also selected to be a judge at the national finals of the We the People contest in Washington, D.C. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Professor of Law and Director of Legal Services Program John M. Burman
 

Recent Publication:  An Attorney’s Duties to Prospective and Former Prospective Clients Who Never Become Clients, Vol. 31, No. 2, Wyo. Law. (April 2008).

 

On April 2nd, Professor Burman and his brother, William J. Burman, M.D., spoke at the Law Review Symposium on “Health Care Reform and Patient Safety.”  The Burmans presented a program about “Litigation, Patient Safety, and the Tort Environment.”

 

On April 7th, Professor Burman spoke to the Wyoming Society of International Law.  The topic of his address was:  “After Seventeen Years, How is the Rule of Law in Russia?”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Jerry W. Housel / Carl F. Arnold Distinguished Professor of Law Stephen M. Feldman
 

Recently, Professor Feldman coached the Laramie 7th grade boys' team to the championship in the Laramie Youth Basketball tournament.  Feldman remarked, "The team defeated Rock Springs, Gillette, and a North Denver team on the way."

 

Professor Feldman will be taking a sabbatical this year and spending the time writing at his home in Laramie. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Professor of Law and Director of the Defender Aid Program Diane Courselle

 

On April 16, Professor Courselle presented a Criminal Justice Seminar at the Centre for Criminal Justice, University of Limerick School of Law entitled:  "Can Judicial Discretion in Sentencing Work?  Lessons from the US and Ireland".

 

Professor Courselle is currently on sabbatical and living in Ireland.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Dona presented at the recent Women's Legal Forum in Lander put on by the Wyoming State Bar.  The topic of her discussion was client interaction. 

 

On March 27, Dona was the keynote speaker at the 100 Man March in Casper.  A Casper nonprofit organization “Don’t Touch Us” organized the march following the domestic violence homicide of Jennifer Randel last year. 

 

Dona also contributed a guest editorial to the Casper Star Tribune about domestic violence.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Associate Dean and Professor of Law Dee Pridgen

 

Associate Dean Dee Pridgen will moderate a panel discussion at the fourth Teaching Consumer Law Conference, May 23 and 24th in Houston, Texas.  This conference is presented by the Center for Consumer Law at the University of Houston Law Center.  The title of this year’s conference is “Teaching Consumer Law—The Who, What, Where, Why, When and How.”

 

Dean Pridgen is also one of the organizers for the annual consumer issues conference.  The 2008 Consumer Issues Conference: Energy and Telecommunication Issues, will take place on September 25, 2008 at the Wyoming Union.   The conference is cosponsored by the UW College of Law and the UW College of Agriculture.   More details on conference speakers will appear in future issues of The Docket.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Professor of Law and Director of Legal Writing Program Michael R. Smith

Citing Professor Smith’s prominent role in the field of legal writing and in the development of legal writing scholarship, the executive committee of the Legal Writing Institute has recently honored him with an appointment to the Advisory Board for the Legal Writing e-journal on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN).

As a member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Writing Institute, Professor Smith will be attending a board of directors meeting at Drexel University College of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 29, 2008.

Professor Smith has also been invited to participate in a panel presentation on legal writing publications on July 15, 2008, at the Biennial Conference of the Legal Writing Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. He will be representing the Editorial Committee of the Journal of the Association of Legal Writing Directors (J.ALWD), of which he is a founding member. The panel presentation will be titled "Advice From the Editors: Getting Your Legal Writing Article Published."
