Residency status for tuition purposes is not automatically granted. The minimum amount of time you have to reside in the state to qualify is one year, however it is very rare that a student’s residency status is based solely on that factor. Decisions for changes in status are made through the undergraduate admissions office at the university. These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis for each applicant. Multiple factors in addition to the time an applicant has resided in Wyoming are considered. The Web-site listing the university’s policies on residency status: http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/admissions/residency.asp. Specific questions regarding establishing residency status should be directed to the undergraduate admissions office at (307) 766-5160, 1-800-342-5996, or why-wyo@uwyo.edu.
The Office of Student Financial Aid administers student financial aid programs available on a university-wide basis. These programs include scholarships and grants; student loans, including the Perkins Loan, Subsidized Stafford Loans and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans; student employment, including the Federal College Work-Study Program; educational benefits under the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act (G.I. Bill) and the War Orphans Act; and benefits available to disabled veterans. Arrangements for financial assistance should be made prior to enrollment.
For financial aid information write to Office of Student Financial Aid, P.O. Box 3335, Laramie, Wyoming 82071-3335. Financial aid information is on the Web at http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/SFA/ or e-mail finaid@uwyo.edu.
Applicants are encouraged to apply for financial aid as soon as possible after January 1 because some program deadlines occur on March 1. You should not wait for an admission decision to apply for financial aid.
Because law school studies are new and difficult and the workload is heavy, students should make every effort to arrange their finances so the first year of law study can be completed without outside employment. Under the accreditation standards of the American Bar Association governing the College of Law, a law student may not engage in employment for more that 20 hours per week in any semester in which the student is enrolled in more than 12 class hours. Part-time work may be compatible with law study in the second and third years.

The scholarship application form for these scholarships will be provided to all entering students. Only one application form need be submitted, as applicants will be considered for any scholarship for which they are eligible. Scholarship applications are sent to applicants after they have received notification of their acceptance to the College of Law. A new application must be submitted for each academic year.
