INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

International students are welcome to apply to the University of Wyoming College of Law.  The application deadline is March 1st and the application fee is $50.00.  In addition to submitting a College of Law application form, personal essay, and resume international applicants must provide evidence of English language proficiency as measured by a TOEFL minimum score of 525 on the written exam or an equivalent score on the computer-based exam (197 CBE).  The Section 1 score of the TOEFL is also evaluated.  A score of 58 or higher on the written exam is preferred or an equivalent score on the computer-based exam (24 CBE).  Note: TOEFL scores are only valid for two years from the test date.

All applicants must take the LSAT exam and register with the Law School Admissions Council (www.lsac.org).  Foreign applicants to the College of Law must also provide official transcripts with an English translation from the educational institutions they attended to earn their undergraduate and/or graduate degrees if the LSDAS report does not provide a transcript analysis for those educational institutions.  Law Services does provide transcript analysis for a few foreign educational institutions, however, the majority of foreign educated students have attended institutions that cannot be reported on the LSDAS report.  If the LSDAS report will not show the transcript analysis for the schools you attended, you must subscribe to the LSAT only reporting serve and have official transcripts sent to us from the schools you attended along with an English translation.

International applicants are evaluated with the same standards as are all domestic applicants with respect to undergraduate GPA, LSAT score, quality and content of the personal essay, as well as other criteria relevant to success in the study and practice of law, such as diversity in life experience or work experience, geographic diversity, public service work, membership in organizations or associates, leadership roles held, and letters of recommendation.  All applications are evaluated in comparison with the rest of the applications submitted for that year.  The median LSAT score and GPA for each admitted class varies from year to year.  Median  LSAT scores and median GPAs for previous years can be found at http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/law/admissions/admissions_stats.asp. These numbers do fluctuate from year to year and are only to be looked at as a way to gauge where the mid-range of typical scores fall.  It is very difficult to predict how a particular person's application file will be viewed by the Admission Committee, because the standards used for evaluation will depend on the nature of the applicant pool for the year in which a particular applicant has applied.

Financial aid for students available through the College of Law is in the form of scholarships that are distributed by the College of Law Admission and Scholarship Committee. These scholarships are awarded to students once they have been accepted to the College and have indicated their intention to matriculate.  All accepted applicants are eligible for College of Law scholarships, regardless of nationality.

College of Law scholarships vary widely in award criteria and amount.  There are no full tuition scholarships available.  There are both need-based and merit-baaed scholarships available and some scholarships may be awarded in contingent years depending on the recipient's continued academic performance.  There is one general application form for all College of Law scholarships and scholarship awards are made based on the information provided on this form and in the applicant's application file.  Scholarship applications are sent to applicants after they have received their notification of acceptance to the College of Law.
