UW Commencement Speakers Announced |

May 1, 2007 -- Former State Treasurer Cynthia Lummis and Natrona County Superintendent of Schools Jim Lowham, both UW alumni, will be among speakers during University of Wyoming commencement ceremonies Friday and Saturday.
Ceremonies for the individual colleges are scheduled Saturday, May 5; College of Law ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 12; and UW/Casper College Center ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday, May 17.
UW is scheduled to accord degrees upon more than 1,450 students, including 1,124 undergraduates, 235 graduate students, 73 College of Law graduates and 46 School of Pharmacy graduates. The largest degree categories are bachelor of arts, 442; bachelor of science, 410; master of science, 89; and master of arts, 53.
The schedule of events for individual college commencement ceremonies, along with key speakers, are:
Friday, May, 4, 3 p.m. -- American Indian Studies ceremony, Wyoming Union Family Room, Edward Wadda, the state's tribal liaison for the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone tribes.
Friday, May 4, 5 p.m. -- Multicultural graduation, Wyoming Union ballroom, family-oriented event to honor graduates.
Saturday, May 5, 8:30 a.m. -- College of Health Sciences, Arena-Auditorium, Kevin Tripp, Cody native and 1978 pharmacy graduate, executive vice president and president, Retail Midwest for SUPERVALU stores.
9 a.m. -- College of Business, Arts and Sciences auditorium, students Camille Phillips, Kemmerer, B.S. in accounting; David Primus, Laramie, B.S. with dual majors in marketing and finance; and Edwin Schumacher, Sheridan, M.B.A.
College of Education, War Memorial Fieldhouse, Jim Lowham, superintendent, Natrona County School District; undergraduate speaker, Tanya Kienlen, Worland; graduate speaker, Jennifer Murdock, Hot Springs, S.D.; and outreach student speaker, Mary Anne Purtzer, Cheyenne.
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. -- Free picnic for graduates, families and friends, Arena-Auditorium concourse.
1:30 p.m. -- College of Agriculture, War Memorial Fieldhouse, former State Treasurer Cynthia Lummis, who earned bachelor's degrees and a law degree at UW and who at the age of 24 she became the youngest woman in the Wyoming State Legislature.
College of Arts and Sciences, Arena-Auditorium, Travis Jordan, Gillette, political science and environment and natural resources, recipient of the Tobin Memorial Award as the university's outstanding graduating man.
College of Engineering, Arts and Sciences auditorium, Sarah Lynne Kemper of Wilson, honor student in civil engineering.
Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing, Fine Arts Center concert hall, Janice E. Stephens, entrepreneur, educator, author and publisher and the nursing school's distinguished alumnae.
6 p.m. -- ROTC Commissioning, Fine Arts Center concert hall, Lt. Col. Rex Rees, professor of aerospace studies, Air Force ROTC commander.
Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m. -- College of Law, Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, UW alumnus and Paul Stock Foundation President Charles Kepler of Cody.
Thursday, May 17, 7:30 p.m. -- UW/Casper College Center, John Schiffer of Kaycee, president of the Wyoming Senate.
