A Message from Interim Dean Sullivan
The college is looking ahead to a busy, productive fall semester. Please take a look at the Calendar of Events at the end of this Memo and plan to attend our upcoming programs. Of particular interest is the TelEmergency Conference featuring Robert Galli, M.D., on the 29th of this month. Dr. Galli, an emergency physician with 24 years of experience, founded the Telemedicine Information Exchange at the University of Mississippi Medical Center to alleviate the shortage of providers in rural emergency departments similar to those in the state of Wyoming. B. Delworth Gardner, Ph.D., will present "The Various Faces of Capital Investments: Using Capital Wisely for a Better (Healthier) World" on October 3rd. Dr. Gardner, a UW alumnus and Professor Emeritus at UC Davis and BYU, will comment on the findings of the Copenhagen Consensus as they relate to the world's top 10 challenges (world health issues, climate change, conflict, education, economic development, etc.) during a forum sponsored by the University of Wyoming Community Health & Economic Development Center and the Colleges of Health Sciences and Business.
Did You Know?
Fall is in the air at the University of Wyoming. Faculty and staff are hard at work in the College of Health Sciences to welcome new and returning students, alumni, parents, and new and old friends. We look forward to seeing you this fall in Laramie. Please stop by and say "Hello" if you are in town. We would love to see you on campus and give you a tour of our lovely facility. Plan to attend Homecoming, October 10th-11th, or one of the university's other exciting football weekends. Fall is a great time to be in Laramie and at the University of Wyoming. Go Cowboys!
Annual Health Sciences Get-togethers
We will welcome all first-year UW students who intend to major in health sciences during an open house from 5-7 p.m. in the atrium of the Health Sciences Center on Wednesday, September 10th. Health sciences students and faculty will be on hand to discuss our programs, serve pizza and soft drinks, and give tours of our beautiful building. Then, on Tuesday, September 16th, students, faculty, and staff are invited to the now-famous college barbeque beginning at 11:30 a.m. on the west side of the building. Please mark your calendars, and join us for the fun and camaraderie. For more information, please contact Craig Vaske (307-766-3499 or cvaske@uwyo.edu).

Center for Rural Health Research and Education (CRHRE)
The CRHRE has expanded its focus on telehealth by launching the Wyoming Health Information Resources Web portal designed to provide information and resources for developing private and secure health information exchange (HIE) in the state. Research Scientist Ryan Sandefer coordinated the project with the Wyoming Health Information Organization and the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center. With support from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, Ryan will be joined by Barb Robinson to further promote HIE by participating in a multi-state collaborative to determine the best ways to communicate with and educate health care providers about the benefits and values of HIE.
