WICHE, WWAMI and WY-DENTGo to: Applications WICHE WWAMI WY-DENT*See important changes to WWAMI Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education WICHE programs include the Professional Student Exchange (PSEP), the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE), and the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP). These programs give Wyoming residents to access to programs at institutions in other participating states, often at reduced tuition. The WUE program is administered through the University of Wyoming Admissions Office for students wishing to attend the University of Wyoming. For more information on WICHE student exchange programs visit the home page at www.wiche.edu/sep/ Professional Student Exchange Program PSEP provides Wyoming residents access for out-of-state professional programs that are not available in Wyoming. If accepted and supported (support is highly competitive and is not guaranteed), students pay a reduced tuition usually resident tuition at public institutions or reduced tuition at private schools. The tuition is based on the costs at the attending institution, not the University of Wyoming resident tuition rate. The State of Wyoming pays a standard support fee to the admitting school for educational services being offered to our residents. Support is offered during the professional program only. The length of the support varies according to the professional field. The professional programs and the length of support are listed below:
For a list of participating schools in the various fields, visit the WICHE web page at WICHE PSEP The application process has two parts: PSEP Residency Requirement To be certified, applicants must be a legal resident of the State of Wyoming for a period of not less than three (3) consecutive years immediately prior to the anticipated date of entrance into a professional school. The deadline for applying for certification is October 15. Applications are due one year before anticipated entrance to professional school. Deadlines are firm. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. In conjunction with WICHE, Wyoming has established agreements with professional schools outside the WICHE compact area. Students must meet the same certification requirements stated above. Wyoming has the following agreements in the field of dentistry: WY-DENT Dental Education Program WY-DENT is a newly approved program between the University of Wyoming and the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry and Creighton University School of Dentistry. The program annually reserves up to 10 seats for the program with a limit of 5 at each school. Admission is a two step process. Applicants must be certified residents of Wyoming. To be eligible for certification, the applicant or parent or guardian must be legal residents of the State of Wyoming for five continuous years immediately prior to enrolling at one of the dental contract schools. Applications for certification are available on this website and are due no later than October 15 of the year preceding the anticipated start date of dental school. Applicants apply for admission to the University of Nebraska and/or Creighton University. Those accepted to the program will be required to sign a contract with the University of Wyoming that specifies the amount of the annual contract payment to the University of Wyoming and the terms of payback. Participants pay a contract payment to the University of Wyoming (WY-DENT rate) for the four years of dental school and the state pays the educational costs to the relevant University for each student. Wyoming requires the participants to either pay back the money expended on their behalf plus interest or practice dentistry in Wyoming for three years. WWAMI Medical Education Program WWAMI is a contract program between the University of Wyoming and the University of Washington School of Medicine for medical education. The program annually reserves up to 16 seats for qualified Wyoming residents. Participants complete the first year of medical school on the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie and the second year at the University of Washington in Seattle. The third and fourth years are spent in clinical sites throughout the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho). Admission is twofold. Applicants must be certified residents of Wyoming. To be eligible for certification, the applicant or parent or guardian must be legal residents of the State of Wyoming for five continuous years immediately prior to enrolling at the University of Washington. Applications for certification are available on this website and are due no later than October 15 of the year preceding the anticipated start date of medical school. Applicants apply for admission to the University of Washington. Wyoming applicants who are granted admission to the University of Washington are required to sign a contract with the University of Wyoming that specifies the amount of the contract payment and details the terms of payback. Participants make a contract payment to the University of Wyoming (WWAMI rate) for the four years of medical school and the state pays the educational costs to the University of Washington for each student. Wyoming requires the participants to either pay back the money expended on their behalf plus interest or practice medicine in Wyoming for three years. NOTE: Offers of admission to the University of Washington School of Medicine are contingent upon agreement to participate in the WWAMI program and signing the contract. --- IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR THIS YEAR ---WYOMING WWAMI INTERVIEWS WILL BE IN LARAMIE, JANUARY 19-21.This means that your application, including letters, must be complete and submitted to The University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) by DECEMBER 1. Given the Thanksgiving break immediately prior to that date, we strongly suggest submitting everything by mid-November. For those of you who cannot meet this deadline, we will also have interviews in February, either in Laramie or Seattle. The residency certification applications are available May through October. Applications are due no later than October 15, 2009 for entering fall of 2010. Late applications are not accepted. IMPORTANT: When filling out applications, be sure to fill out each section completely. Be consistent in your responses. Don't leave anything out or take anything for granted.
