Welcome to the College of Health Sciences, the home of the Fay W.
Whitney School of Nursing; the School of Pharmacy, which is celebrating
its 60th anniversary; the divisions of kinesiology and
health, communication disorders, and social work; the WWAMI medical
education program; and the Family Medicine Residency Programs in Casper
and Cheyenne. We also offer minors in health sciences and disabilities,
which are designed to complement campus-wide majors ranging from
business to education to psychology, and offer a solid base for students
who plan to attend medical, dental, and other preprofessioal schools
such as physical and occupational therapy. In addition to our academic
programs, the college also sponsors the Wyoming INstitute for
Disabilities and the Center for Rural Health Research and Education. We
are proud of our varied health care programs and their many satisfying
career opportunities and invite you to take a few minutes to browse our
site.
The majority of the college programs are located in the newly renovated Health Sciences Center. With its “smart” classrooms, updated research laboratories, and national and international videoconferencing and telecommunications capabilities, the facility is equipped to provide students with an interdisciplinary education in a setting replicating the way health care services are delivered: e.g., pharmacy students work with medical and nursing students, nursing students interact with social work students, and social work students learn firsthand the benefits of client referral to audiologists and professionals trained to work with individuals with disabilities.
Because health care is one of the fastest growing sectors of the United States’ economy, the college works constantly to widen its program base. For example, the Division of Kinesiology and Health launched its Athletic Training Education Program, and the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing has instituted innovative programs such as an accelerated bachelor of science in nursing degree and its psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner curriculum. Because of the college’s response to the growing demand for health care professionals, many of our graduates receive numerous job offers in their fields, and most can look forward to a 100 percent job placement rate.
Whether you are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or a professional or preprofessional program, the College of Health Sciences will lead you to a rewarding career as you contribute to the health care and well-being of the citizens of Wyoming and the nation. We welcome your interest and look forward to hearing from you. Please contact us at admin.hs@uwyo.edu or 307-766-6556.
