PURPOSE
Manages the operational and personnel activities of construction projects and coordinates all phases of projects within Physical Plant and other departments and/or outside sources.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage and coordinate construction projects involving major renovations and/or alteration to campus buildings; evaluate ongoing and potential workloads related to projects; prioritize work on major Physical Plant projects.
Serve as liaison among Physical Plant departments, campus departments and external contractors for coordinating and scheduling construction projects.
Visit work site to determine necessary resources; supervise, manage and evaluate work and performance, as directed; coordinate and manage work of construction-contracted staff through bid specification procedures, as directed.
Assist in the development of organizational policy relative to campus construction; interpret statutes to develop and coordinate construction documentation applicable to minor construction projects.
Evaluate completed projects, completing an analysis of materials and labor costs versus project estimates; prepare reports and documentation as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Coordinate, discuss and resolve operational, financial and personnel concerns with Director, Facilities Planning and other campus administrators.
Maintain public relations and image of Physical Plant operations with the University community and the general public.
May act as Director, Physical Plant, in his/her absence, as directed.
SPECIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Basic, routine and advanced construction drawings, blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and specifications.
The occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Current trade methods, materials and equipment.
Applicable university, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures.
Contract documents and specifications.
Federal, state, and local codes and ordinances pertinent to construction and maintenance.
Building repairs and maintenance.
Project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
Planning and scheduling techniques.
Computer-based job estimating system.
Accounting for job labor and material costs.
Budgeting, cost estimating, fiscal management principles and procedures.
Applicable safety procedures.
Management principles and practices.
Customer service standards and procedures.
Skills and Abilities to:
Read, interpret, and work from advanced sketches, blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver’s license
WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards, and changes in temperature. Exposed to hazards associated with progressive phases of construction projects.
