Employees Called to Active Military Duty who are members of the Guard or Reserve.

 Benefited employees will be granted leaves without pay but without loss of seniority, status, efficiency rating, vacation, sick leave or other benefits.  Vacation and sick leave will continue to accrue.  Employees will continue to receive the full retirement contribution.  Group insurances (life, health, dental) may be continued with the university making the regular contribution.  Long term disability will be suspended but will resume upon the return of the employee to UW.

SPECIAL BENEFITS FOR GUARD AND RESERVE MEMBERS

 University of Wyoming benefited employees who are members of the uniformed services guard or reserves who are ordered to active duty on or after September 11, 2001, shall be eligible for the following special benefits/compensation through October 31, 2007.  These special benefits/compensation are in addition to those already authorized under federal and state laws (Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act and the Military Service Relief Act).  Employees shall apply for the special benefits/compensation by providing a copy of the appropriate military orders to the director of human resources. 

  1. Members of the guard/reserves whose uniformed services base pay is less than their regular base pay as a university employee shall be eligible to receive an amount equal to the difference between their monthly base pay in university employment at the time they left the university and their monthly base pay in the uniformed services.  The department for which the employee worked shall be responsible for this payment.
  1. After the reemployment of the member eligible for these special benefits/compensation, the employee will be given the opportunity to make additional deferrals of compensation within the time limits of the federal law (tax deferred annuities or deferred compensation) and the university shall make any matching contributions authorized and funded by state statute.
  1. Members eligible for these special benefits/compensation shall be entitled to all vacation leave accrued during the period of such military service and shall not be subject to leave forfeiture requirements of Trustee Regulation V.G.1. , V.G.5., and UW Staff Handbook , page 10 (Leaves), during the period of such military service.
