FY 2009 Workers’ Compensation Rates Effective 7/1/08
The following rates for Workers’ Compensation are effective July 1, 2008. The definitions, rates and process for debiting fringe benefits accounts for Workers' Compensation are as follows:
WC1 Clerical ~ Rate: .0032 X *gross salary, applies to support staff of institutions of learning who typically work in an office environment, whose duties do not include performing in a scientific laboratory environment.
WC2 Professional (without lab) ~ Rate: .0044 X *gross salary, applies to professional faculty, administrators, and support personnel of institutions of learning who's duties do not include performing in a scientific laboratory environment.
WC3 Professional (with lab involvement) ~ Rate: .0063 X *gross salary, applies to professional faculty, administrators, and support personnel of institutions of learning who's duties include performing in a scientific laboratory environment.
WC4 Non-Professional ~ Rate: .0476 X *gross salary, applies to employees engaged in the care, custody and maintenance of university, college or school buildings, grounds and equipment; this rate also applies to safety and security personnel of the institution and any other personnel engaged in activities not defined as Professional (with lab involvement), Professional (without lab involvement) or Clerical.
All non-benefited employees, including students, should be placed in the appropriate rate instead of the “Clerical” rate. For example, if you have a student working in a lab, they will be placed in the “Professional with lab” category. Graduate Assistants will be placed in either the “Professional” or “Professional with lab” because their duties include either teaching or researching in a lab setting. The rate categories are on the PeopleSoft forms that have been developed and departments will be able to check the appropriate rate at the time of hire.
*Gross salary includes base pay, overtime pay, bonus pay, etc.
For employees paid from Section II funds, the monthly amount for Workers’ Comp will be charged to the employee’s fringe account that is associated with the account that they are paid from. Units and departments preparing budgets for grant submission should include the appropriate workers' comp rate into applications that will fund salaries. These costs must be included in future budgets. Section I employees will continue to have Workers’ Comp paid from EPB’s (Employer Paid Benefits).
ALL University of Wyoming employees being paid through the University of Wyoming payroll system, living, and working, outside the State of Wyoming must contact the Risk Management Office at 307-766-5767 for Workers' Compensation coverage. These employees are not covered under Wyoming Workers' compensation. Also, please notify Human Resources of employees being covered through Risk Management so that we may waive coverage through Wyoming Workers' Compensation.

Please follow the directions below for filing a claim:
Seek necessary medical attention as soon as possible. Advise the physician or hospital that you are employed by UW and that you were injured while on the job.
Notify your supervisor of the injury/accident within 72 hours. Failure to notify your supervisor could result in a denial of your claim.
Obtain a Wyoming Employee Report of Injury from your department secretary OR Room 141, Human Resources (HR) Department. Within 10 days from the injury/accident complete both sides of the form in black ink. Sign the Employee Certification. Give the form to your supervisor or other person authorized by your department to complete and sign the Employer Certification. If you are physically unable to comply, anyone may complete and file the report on your behalf.
Your department secretary will deliver the completed report to HR. HR will set up centralized files and submit the original report to Workers’ Comp within ten (10) days of the occurrence. All UW injury reports must be sent to Room 141, Human Resources. DO NOT send to Workers’ Comp. Failure to comply with these deadlines could result in a denial of benefits.
Prescription for work related injuries/accidents may be filled at Student Health Services at a reduced cost. Services by Student Health are limited to prescriptions only, medical treatment is not provided.
The department must complete an injury report regardless of whether the employee files a report.
Applications for Temporary Total Disability (TTD) are available in Room 141 WYO Hall or from Workers’ Compensation, 710 Garfield, Room 119, Laramie, Wyoming, 82070. For the specific UW leave policy relating to Workers’ Compensation, see the Staff Handbook.
