May 8, 2003 -- University of Wyoming students will present research on the "American Experience in China, Japan and Southeast Asia," from 1-3 p.m., Thursday, May 15, in the American Heritage Center Stock Growers Room.
"Asia Through American Eyes" is a senior research seminar that uses AHC archival holdings to assess the experience and perceptions of Americans who had professional assignments in various parts of East Asia. Each student was assigned to research one collection, focusing particularly on how the subject viewed Asia.
The public forum will provide an opportunity for each of these students to present a synopsis of their findings. Students presenting work are Katie Boysen, Jeremy Brown, Jared Johnson, Jenna Masters, Jacob Murcray, and Helen Sanford, all from Laramie; Dirk Dijkstal, Cheyenne; Kristin Edwards, Encampment; Cody Haar, Parkman; and Molly Schweigert, Powell.
Some of the topics are: POWs in Bataan and the Philippines, civil war in China, post-war Japan, and the Vietnam War.
