Cuba Topic of UW Presentations this Week |

Oct. 7, 2003 -- A leading authority on Cuba-United States relations will speak and participate in a panel discussion Oct. 9-10 at the University of Wyoming.
Louis A. Perez Jr., professor of Latin American history at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, will discuss "Cuba and the United States: The Cultural Context of the Cuban Revolution," Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. in the UW Foundation House, 12th and Ivinson Streets. His talk is the annual Cone Lecture sponsored by the UW Department of History.
His volume on Cuba in the Oxford University Press series is considered a seminal work. His recent work has focused on identity, nationalism, and United States-Cuban cultural interaction.
Perez will participate in a brown-bag panel discussion Friday, Oct. 10, at noon in Room 156 of the History Building. Steve Ropp, professor of political science, and Adrian Bantjes, associate professor of history, will join in the discussion involving "Cuba and the United States: Current Perspectives."
