Feb. 21, 2007 -- University of Wyoming students are studying abroad this spring through programs coordinated by the International Programs Office.

The study abroad and exchange programs give UW students an opportunity to experience cultural diversity while fulfilling personal and academic goals in an overseas setting. Programs placing students in locations throughout the world are available for undergraduates majoring in any field. UW credit is awarded upon return when approved in advance by UW.

According to Anne Alexander, director of UW International Programs, studies show students who study abroad return with an increased self-understanding, flexibility of mind, trouble-shooting capacity and patriotism.

“Global awareness and international agility are the keys to success in the 21st century for UW students,” she says. “Having experience abroad will give you tools that will make you not only a more successful student, but a better citizen.”

To participate in a study abroad or exchange program, students must meet GPA and other eligibility requirements set by individual programs. For more information call (307) 766-3677 or visit the International Programs Office in Room 248 of Knight Hall.

This spring 79 UW students are studying abroad in various locations, including 17 who are participating in the London Semester. The London Semester is a three-month program in which groups from United States universities take classes taught by American professors and British faculty. UW faculty member Tracey Patton, associate professor in the Department of Communication and Journalism, is accompanying the UW students.
