UW's College Bowl Champs Advance to Regionals

Jan. 26, 2007 -- The winners of the University of Wyoming College Bowl have qualified for the regional competition to be held Feb. 22-24, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

College Bowl is a question and answer game of general knowledge and quick recall. It provides an arena for the brightest students on campus to demonstrate their skills in varsity competition.

Members of the winning UW team are: Douglas Kenik, a mechanical engineering senior from Casper; Alex Smeaton of Menomonie, Wis., a sophomore studying history; Brian Symons, a chemical engineering senior from Sheridan; and John Woodward, a Riverton senior with a double major in history and anthropology. The team answered questions involving history, literature, science, multiculturalism, religion, geography, current events, the arts, social sciences, sports and popular culture.

Members from the second place team: Kendra Hamel, an architectural engineering student from Green River; Karl Heimbuck, a mathematics sophomore from Guernsey; Jerad Meidinger, an electrical engineering sophomore from Casper; and Jordan Smith, a chemical engineering student from Cody.

The regional tournament, with UW competing against teams from Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, will be held at the University of Utah during the Association of College Unions International Region 13 recreation and college bowl tournaments.

Iron Skull, the junior class honorary, and the Associated Students of UW sponsored the UW College Bowl.
