June 2, 2004 -- A special three-weekend course on the history of organized crime will be offered at the University of Wyoming/Casper College Center (UW/CC) June 19-20, July 10-11 and July 24-25.

Students enrolled in "History of Organized Crime in the United States" will read a biography of Al Capone and other works and look at several gangster films. William Moore, professor in the UW Department of History, is the instructor.

Moore says the class will explore the changing concept of organized crime over time with special attention given to the 20th century and special emphasis "on ethnicity, the politics of crime fighting, and the media, especially motion pictures and television."

In addition to the readings and films, topics to be developed in class include "Organized Crime, the Cuban Connection, and the Assassination of John Kennedy"; "Organized Crime and the Terrorist Connection"; and "Mafia Pluralism: Beyond the Italian Stereotype."

For more information, or to register for this course, call the UW/CC Center at 268-2713 or toll free at 1-877-264-9930.
