Requirements for a Minor in Geography

 

The department offers minors in geography, planning, and geographic information sciences.  Credit requirements range from 18-20 hours of required and elective courses, all of which must be completed with a grade of C or above.

 

Geography

Total Credit Hours - 19

Required Courses - 10 hours

  • GEOG 1010    Intro to Physical Geography (4)
  • GEOG 1020    Intro to Human Geography (3)
  • GEOG 2150    Map Use and Analysis (3)

Electives - 9 hours chosen from:

  • One 3000+ level course in human, cultural, or economic geography (3)
  • One 3000+ level course in physical, environmental, or resource geography (3)
  • Any other geography course(s)
     

Geographic Information Sciences

Total Credit Hours - at least 19

Required Courses - 7 hours

  • GEOG 2150    Map Use & Analysis (3)
  • GEOG 4200    Geographic Information Systems I (4)

The recommended math preparation for students who wish to take the GIS minor include:

  • MATH 1404    Trigonometry or MATH 1450 Algebra and Trigonometry
  • MATH 2250    Elementary Linear Algebra
