UW Investment and Endowment

Private gifts are a very important source of revenue for establishing, maintaining, and enhancing programs at the University of Wyoming. Since its inception in 1962, the University of Wyoming Foundation has been a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation established to solicit, manage, and invest donations. Among the funds invested by the Foundation are endowments, life income trusts and annuities, outright gifts, reserve balances, and cash.

Investments
Providing a reliable, growing source of income to the University of Wyoming is one of the Foundation's main objectives, and its investment policies are intended to preserve or increase the real principal value of its endowment.

Endowments
The objective and one of the primary benefits of endowed gifts is to provide permanent capital and a dependable stream of income for the University and its programs despite trends in the economy or administrative changes.

Wyoming State Matching Fund
As of July 30, 2003, all $30 million in a matching fund created by the Wyoming State Legislature had been committed to match gifts for UW endowments. At the end of September 2003, the UW Foundation had already received over $16 million of the $30 million pledged by the University's generous donors. In March of 2006, the Wyoming State Legislature made available $25 million more, to match dollar-for-dollar, endowment gifts of $50,000 or more to the University of Wyoming. In March 2007, an additional $33 million matching funds were made available by the state.
