What past FIG students and faculty have to say... |
|
Student Comments Having a few familiar faces in a class of 200 really makes a freshman science course less intimidating! FIGs just seem to provide students with a place to belong - their own outlet on campus where they "fit." -Lynn Temme, Torrington, Wyoming, Preprofessional Health Sciences I chose the FIG because I believed it would give me a jumpstart for college - and I was right! I not only "hooked up" with a group of peers with similar interests, but I am provided automatic study groups. That is a huge advantage. -Joshua Storey, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Preprofessional Health Sciences Joining the FIG made signing up for class much less of a chore, as they come in a 'package deal' - which is very helpful to us newcomers. I am very glad that I signed up for this FIG. It has been very stimulating thus far, and, in my mind, will only become more so as we progress into the semester. -Cody Minor, Idalia, Colorado, Out of the Classroom - Into the Field I believe we will have an edge over the students who are not members of a FIG; we are planning to do activities . . . that will set us above other students. It is an opportunity to gain good friends and important experience within my area of interest. -Anna Eason, Waverly, Iowa, Preprofessional Health Sciences I have met some really amazing people because of the FIG. I hope I can keep building on the relationships and get a good education all semester. -Ashley Cook, Greeley, Colorado, Teaching and Learning I was told from friends that it is a great experience and helps a lot in the future. -Amanda Cook, Rock Springs, Wyoming, Knowing Me, Knowing You The FIG opened more doors than I ever imagined. It helped me connect with key people in the College of Education. Now that it is two years down the road, I am still benefiting from the opportunities the FIG gave me. The FIG has allowed me to get involved and stay involved in academic and campus life at the University of Wyoming. -Ashley Maloney, Sheridan, Wyoming, Teaching and Learning Faculty Comments
There was a
remarkable difference between the regular and FIG groups. The FIG students
came to the first class already knowing each other and were excited about
being in classes together. They were enthused . . . and participated in
class discussions. By the end of the session, they were a very solid group
of students who had bonded in, what looked like, a very cohesive group
that would support each other for their time at the University and beyond. |
