Film, Music, Television, Advertising:  Exporting American Values Around the Globe
Why is a Marlboro Man mural the first thing you see when you debark into customs at the New Delhi, India airport?  What do Russians think of American television funneled into their country?  Which American sitcoms are popular in China?   How is Christmas now celebrated in Korea?  Did you know that America’s chief export is media entertainment?!  This theme-based FIG is designed for students interested in media, advertising, marketing, popular culture, foreign culture, American culture, international relations, and global issues.  American film, music, television, and advertising will be analyzed to determine the American values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors which are being exported to cultures around the world.
