Pre-School Room

The UW ECEC has four preschool rooms designed to interest and challenge mixed age groups of 3-5 year olds.  The day consists of opportunities for the children to explore different content areas such as art, science, fine and gross motor, dramatic play, and music both individually and as a group.  In-depth projects encourage the children to work together and problem-solve ideas and solutions.  Teachers provide an environment which encourages cooperative work as well as providing opportunities for individual exploration and reflection.  As with the other rooms, parent involvement is always encouraged and welcome.

All of the lead teachers have bachelor’s degrees in early childhood education or professional child development.  The assistant teachers have an associate’s degree or equivalent experience and college course work.

While the educational philosophy and approach is similar in all of the preschool rooms, for parent’s convenience we offer two half-day and two full-day classrooms.

Half-day preschool:  Hours are from 8-12 during the school year.  Consideration is being given to offering a half-day afternoon or half-day summer program if there is demand.  One lead teacher and one assistant teacher staff each class.  A morning breakfast/snack is provided.

Full-day preschool:  Hours are 7:30-5:30 during the school year and 7:30-4:30 during the summer.    Each class has a full-time lead teacher and two half-day assistant teachers.  Typically an aide assists in each class at transition times.  In the full-day classes a morning breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack is provided.
