What is Service-Learning?
Wednesday, April 16, 2008, Noon —12:45 p.m., ECTL—Coe 307 (lunch provided)

Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. Brandon and Katie will demonstrate that service-learning is effectively practiced at research universities. They will present a broad range of new and innovative opportunities for integrating service-learning and civic engagement across the curriculum.

Constructing a Service-Learning Syllabus
Thursday, May 15, 2008, Noon—2:00 p.m., Coe 307-location change (lunch provided)

This workshop will aid faculty in identifying service-learning projects for the upcoming academic year. Participants will be provided with the fundamentals of developing a syllabus for a service-learning course or as a component of a course.

Attendance at both sessions is encouraged but not necessary. Register for one or both.

The University of Wyoming recently applied to become a member of the Campus Compact, a national coalition of more than 1,100 colleges and universities representing some 6 million students.  The CC promotes community service, civic engagement, and service-learning in higher education.
