  Classrooms and Technology

At UW the task of equipping and assigning classrooms is a collaborative enterprise of programs, departments, colleges, and central administration.  Individual instructors first work with their department scheduler and with the classroom coordinators to find optimum space.  They then can take several steps to use the classroom to full advantage.

Become Familiar with the Classroom

  • Visit the classroom before classes start.  Stand and sit in all parts of the room.

  • Make an appointment with classroom support professionals to become acquainted with the technologies available and receive advice about their use.

Assess Technology Needs

  • Determine what technology will make teaching more effective, or schedule a consultation with ECTL staff.

  • Make requests for hardware and software.

  • Request additional technology from the ECTL, including laptops, projectors, speakers, DVD players, microphones, and video cameras.

  • Plan the production of instructional media, such as video or audio.

  • Store content on a USB flash memory device to ease transfer of classroom materials.
