Reasoning Bob Mayes, Director of the Science and Math Teaching Center Tuesday, October 2nd, from 5:00—6:00 p.m., Coe 307 Lack of quantitative reasoning is one component of students’ failure to enroll in or complete courses in science, technology, engineering, and math. Bob will explore what QR is and how to effectively teach it. Teaching a Lab Erin Campbell-Stone, Lecturer, Geology & Geophysics Friday, November 2nd, from Noon—1:00 p.m., Coe 307 Science Labs provide the opportunity to cultivate specific skills and scientific literacies in addition to learning content. Erin will share her techniques for teaching effective labs. Teaching Students to Solve Problems Dan May, Graduate Assistant, Mathematics Friday, January 18th, from Noon—1:00 p.m., Coe 307 In science and math disciplines, students often learn new concepts through solving problems. Dan will discuss how to teach students to overcome their fear of or resistance to problem solving. Registration full. |
