Online Supplemental Courses at UW
The University of Wyoming offers three online course
platforms intended for use as supplements to classroom courses-- WebCT,
eCompanion, and Course Studio, and a fourth, Sakai, on an experimental
basis.
Students:
Trouble with connections to WebCT or eCompanion? Try the
Online Course FAQ.
For a WebCT course, students
create their own accounts and add themselves.
For an eCompanion course, student accounts
are created by the eCollege system and students are added to courses
automatically.
Instructions for reaching courses on both systems can
be found in the Student Info section (see bar on the left, or
http://uwyo.edu/ctl/Online_courses/student.htm).
Instructors:
For How-To information, please see the
online
course workshop notes. Course Studio
provides communication and file-sharing tools, but no quizzing or grade
maintenance, as do WebCT, eCompanion, and Sakai. See the
Online Course Comparison for details.
Faculty request courses (on either platform) through
the "Course Request" form in the "Faculty Resources" section (http://uwyo.edu/ctl/Online_courses/faculty.htm)
after reading the subsidiary documents on that page.
For WebCT course, instructors need to create their own
accounts as well as requesting courses. For an eCompanion course, faculty and student accounts
are created by the eCollege system and added to the appropriate courses.
If you are having problems with the system, please call 766-5499 or e-mail
ectltech@uwyo.edu. For
common problems and their solutions, see the
Online Course FAQ.
