Instructional Computing Services is available to faculty and their assistants for the consideration, design, creation and evaluation of computer-derived teaching materials. We help with course websites of various kinds; see the "Online Courses" link the right. The computer lab has state-of-the-art hardware and software for the design, development and use of online courses; office applications, electronic presentations, and desktop publication; digital graphics, scanning, and image, text, and voice processing. We give advice on the use of such techniques as well; see "How to Achieve Pedagogical Goals with Teaching Technology" and "How Supplemental Online Courses Can Enhance Your Teaching" in the Faculty Help section. Our counterpart, Instructional Media Services, provides equipment and materials for audio and video work.
Instructional Computing Services may be used by faculty or their assistants who have reserved time for consultation and equipment orientation, and on a walk-in basis for those previously acquainted with the facilities. Please note that ICS staff will train and help you so that you may work on projects on your own; ICS staff, in other words, do not do the work for you. Instructors are encouraged to call ahead to make sure necessary equipment and assistance are available for the time they request.
All of the facilities of Instructional Computing Services are available at no cost to UW instructors.
