We provide a directory, called FacultyShare, for temporary use by faculty, on our server called CTL-Buford. You can create your own subdirectories (folders) and read and write to them as if they were storage drives represented by letters, like "A:\" or "D:\". This directory, a "share," is intended for use in our lab, to save work done there, but is available for general purposes. FacultyShare can be reached from all systems on campus and all users in the UWYO domain (faculty and staff), so you can use it for short-term storage, for exchange of documents with colleagues, and so forth. The server switched off on weekends, and faculty folders are subject to deletion after a month.
Either search for the server in the UWYO domain, or map a drive to it for a
permanent connection. To map a drive:
In "My Computer" or "File Explorer", open the Tools menu and
choose "Map Network Drive..." In the window that appears, make
these entries:
Drive: [choose any letter from the drop-down menu; such as "F:\"]
Path: \\ctl-buford\FacultyShare
(Note the backslashes.) Then click "Finish." You should see a window open with the subdirectories listed. (If you have not logged on locally with a UWYO domain username and password, you will have to do so by through the subsidiary window on the link "different user" before you click "Finish.") Create your own folder, under your name, using "New" on the File menu.
In Finder, click on "Go" and then "Connect to server..." In the window that appears, make this entry, which is case-sensitive:
Server address: smb://ctl-buford/FacultyShare/
(Note the forward slashes.) Then click "Connect." You will be prompted for your UWYO domain username and password, and then you should see a window open with the subdirectories listed. Create your own, under your name, using "New Folder" on the File menu.
