21 May, 2008: Instructional Computing Services has ended its public Equipment Checkout (for laptops, projectors, and so forth). Please speak to us directly if you are collaborating with the ECTL on a teaching project that calls for laptop computers and related equipment. For other uses, such as conferences and research, please see our suggestions to departments.
Computer and Media Equipment Checkout
>>> This office will be discontinuing the checkout service in mid-May, prior to our move to temporary quarters for the duration of the Library remodeling. We seek some other unit on campus to take it over, but have not been able to find one. We will accept only reservations for checkouts that end by May 16th, 2008.
We regret the cancellation of this service, which has been popular with many UW offices. In fact, it has been too popular, and the overhead can no longer be borne by a lab the mission of which is to support teaching. Many of our borrowers took equipment for research, conference travel, demonstrations and presentations for training, and campus events of all descriptions. While all of these worthy activities are teaching in some large sense--as is everything we do at this institution--we must limit our paperwork and maintenance efforts to Ellbogen CTL teaching collaborations.
