In the fall of 2001 Audrey Kleinsasser and Jane Nelson of the
Ellbogen Center met with groups of students at the University of Wyoming to
solicit
nominations of teachers who have made a positive difference in their
lives, teachers who have helped them to remain at UW and to become successful
learners. Student groups included the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan
(MEChA), the Minority Engineering Program/Society of Professional Hispanic
Engineers, the Association of Black Student Leaders (ABSL), the Asian American
Pacific Islander Student Association, the Keepers of the Fire (KOF), the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Alliance (LGBTA), the United
Multicultural Council, the Women's Center, International Student Life, and the
Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW).
The nomination process was also
advertised in the campus newspaper, through student government offices,
and through student list-serves. Students nominated teachers through
their choice of an online nomination form or a paper form.
Fifty-two faculty were nominated.
In December 2002 the E-CTL hosted a reception to honor the nominees.
