Warming Up the Chill:
Six Case Studies of Teaching

Faculty nominees were invited to complete a statement of interest to apply to participate in the case-study phase of the project. Prior to starting the interview, we gained applied for and gained IRB approval. From the pool of applicants, six teachers were chosen. From there, Laurie Milford facilitated the cases by adapting the interview and collaborative writing techniques developed by Pat Hutchings, senior scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and editor of Opening Lines: Approaches to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (2000) and Ethics of Inquiry: Issues in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (2002). Laurie and the six contributors completed the text of their cases in August 2002.
