The graduate program assumes you have completed an undergraduate degree in communication disorders. However, we do try to respond to all students interested in our graduate programs. If you have a bachelor's degree in a different area you may still pursue a graduate degree in speech-language pathology, but must complete the core courses listed below before beginning the graduate program. To complete this program in 3 years, you may take these undergraduate courses without the stated pre-requisites, but you should understand that: (a) this is a more difficult route than on-campus students taking the coursework as part of their undergraduate degree; and (b) your instructor may require you to carry out some independent reading at the beginning of the semester. For more information about distance leveling, contact the distance coordinator, Teresa Garcia at tgarcia@uwyo.edu
You are completing leveling on a course by course basis, not as part of a degree program or certificate. You should sign up for these courses as a non-degree undergraduate student (NDU) each semester that you take only undergraduate courses. Any semester in which you take a graduate class (numbered 5000 or above),(given that you have the required pre-requisites), you must change your status to non-degree graduate student (NDG). This allows you to apply the graduate course to your master's program at a later date. You will then pay fees for all the coursework in the semester at the higher graduate student rate. If you are a full-time on-campus leveling student, you may sign up as second bachelor's (SBA) to qualify for financial aid (note: you will not be completing a second bachelor's, just registering under that status). If you take a graduate course under SBA, you will need to fill out a "Reserve for Graduate Credit" form for that course. Distance students should contact the UW Outreach School for registration and fees.
You can apply for the master's program in the final year of your leveling coursework (i.e., start the application process in the fall for the February deadline for the following fall admittance to the graduate program). Please note that acceptance is on a competitive basis.
