A degree in Communication and Journalism provides a broad range of professional and research courses, offering a sound interdisciplinary academic program for students who plan careers in some aspect of communication and journalism.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

All students who major in either communication or journalism are required to take the core courses.

Communication careers can include human resources, speechwriter, sales, government, lawyer, political campaign director, communication consultant, diversity consultant, governmental lobbyist, public information office, speech instructor, or customer service representative.

For journalism majors, the department encourages journalism majors to work actively in print and broadcast media. The department offers unique professional opportunities for students with the student newspaper (the Branding Iron), the university-licensed public broadcast station (Wyoming Public Radio), and UWTV.

Specialty areas for the journalism degree include:

• News-editorial
• Photojournalism
• Public relations
• Advertising

In addition, the department offers three minors:

• Communication
• Public Relations
• Journalism
