Dr. Kenneth L. Smith is a professor and department chair in the Department of Communication & Journalism. He has been a member of the faculty since 1991.

Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Utah, and his Master's degree from Iowa State University in 1973. His specialization is visual communication and media management and economics. His research interests are newspaper competition, media in smaller markets, and visual structure.

His teaching areas are photography, graphics, newspapers, newsmaking processes, and advertising.

Dr. Smith's professional experience includes eight years as editor and publisher of the Green River Star (WY), during which time the newspaper won 42 national awards for excellence. The paper also won the Editorial Leadership Cup in Wyoming six times.
