Gracie Lawson-Borders |
Dr. Gracie Lawson-Borders is an associate professor in the Department of Communication & Journalism, and is jointly appointed as Director of the African American Studies program. She joined the faculty in 2006. Dr. Lawson-Borders received her Ph.D. from Wayne State University, a master's degree from Northwestern University, and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University. Her research focuses on media management, convergence, media regulations and new communication technologies, as well as she examines media coverage of minority groups and issues. Her book Media Organizations and Convergence: Case Studies of Media Convergence Pioneers focuses on convergence as a concept and a process. Her teaching areas include media management, convergence, news writing, and new communication technologies. She has previously taught as faculty or an adjunct at Kent State University, Southern Methodist University, Wayne State University, Roosevelt University and Northwestern University. A former journalist, Dr. Lawson-Border's professional experience includes more than 14 years as a reporter, copy editor and assignment editor at the Akron Beacon Journal in Ohio; Oakland Press in Pontiac, Michigan, and the Chicago Tribune.
