Questions

Are there computers in the classrooms?

  • Standard PCs are installed in all classrooms.  

Whiteboard/Blackboard questions:

Do I have to bring my own markers/chalk?

  • Chalk and Dry Erase Markers and erasers will be provided in all classrooms.
    Do not under any circumstances use permanent markers !

Any new technology on the whiteboards?

The new whiteboards are a special kind that are baked porcelain, meaning that dry-erase markers will erase easily. However, there is no SmartBoard technology in any of the classrooms.

How do students reserve one of the study rooms?

  • Group study rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Can I use my personal laptop?

There are video (VGA), audio and data connections on the top of each podium. When the laptop is connected the video signal from the laptop should automatically take control over the Desktop PC. If your laptop is connected and booted and there is no video to the projector remember to try the Function (FN) and F8 key combination to shift the video signal to the projector ( ther are many different F keys used by different laptops. There is generally a label on the key that says LCD)

Wireless access is available throughout the Classroom Building.

Note: in the basement (lower level) cell phone coverage is poor to non existent.

What's the story on Videoconferencing?

Outreach owns scheduling of room 109 entirely, and they schedule room 105 after 3pm. Outreach assigns space on a best fit basis.

Can I store equipment in the Classroom building?

The Physics and Chemistry departments have storage rooms set aside on the upper (300) level for various items they may need for demonstrations. However, there are no other storage facilities in the building.

Are there Computer Labs in the Classroom Building ?

There are PC stations in the east lounge for students’ use. The nearest Student Lab is outside the Science Library next door.

Are CPS receivers installed in the podiums ?

Yes, all rooms except the very smallest (#149, 137 & 144) have CPS recievers.

Are there Overhead Projectors available ?

No. The document cameras in all the classrooms will provide that functionality.

Is there control of the thermostat in the classrooms?

No.

Are there Multi-zone or Zone-free DVD players available?

Not at present.

Can the sound from the Crestron Control Panel be turned down or off?

Not at present.

Are lap boards available for use?

Yes, they may be checked out from Daniel Erichsen or Patsy Jackson in the Classroom Coordinator's Office, CR 204.

Are assistive listening devices available for wearers of hearing aids?

Yes, they may be checked out from Daniel Erichsen or Patsy Jackson in the Classroom Coordinator's Office, CR 204.
