Assessment of Student Learning


The Criminal Justice faculty has identified the specific objectives of its undergraduate curriculum. The following are the learning outcomes that we would like to see each Criminal Justice student graduate with. We are continuously and actively assessing our program to ensure that these learning outcomes are being met.

1.  Students will develop an informed familiarity with the nature of crime, the historical and philosophical foundations of law enforcement agencies, criminal courts, and correctional institutions.

2.  Students will be able to recognize the differences between crimes and other types of legal (and moral) wrongs and between the substantive criminal law and the law of criminal procedure.

3.  Students will gain an understanding of the role of punishments and the effect that punishment has on the substantive criminal law.

4.  Students will develop a knowledge of the concepts/perspectives of criminology.

5.  Students will be able to describe and apply the major theories of crime to our society.

6.  Students will develop an accurate knowledge base relating to crime.

7.  Students will critically and objectively examine current research, topics and policy in the area of criminal justice.
