
Michael
Abrahams, M.D..
Michael is a native of Nebraska, where he completed both his
undergraduate and medical school at Creighton University. While in
undergraduate Michael majored in biology and completed research funded for
NASA. He has long been an advocate for primary care medicine and was an
active volunteer in medical school. He also maintains a healthy life outside
of his medical pursuits by mountain climbing, backpacking, downhill skiing
and sport shooting.
Jody
Cousins, M.D.
Jody grew up in Wyoming where she received her education and continued
her undergraduate studies at the University of Wyoming. She was selected as
a Wyoming “WWAMI” student, and graduated from the University of Washington
Medical School. Initially Jody pursued a surgery internship at The Jewish
Hospital in Cincinnati, however her goals have changed significantly and she
feels that there is no career more challenging than Family Medicine.
Returning to Wyoming for Family Medicine is exciting to her. Jody feels a
special connection to the rural population and understands its many
challenges, and is even more confident in her decision to become a Family Medicine physician after the alternate route in her medical education.
Peter
Hanna, M.D.
Peter was born in Brooklyn, New York and has lived in Pennsylvania,
Arizona, England, Belize, and California. Peter received his Bachelors in
Science in Biology from the University of California, Riverside. He received
his M.D. from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine and his Masters of
Health Services Administration from St. Joseph’s College in Maine. In his
spare time, Peter enjoys running, working with his hands on many projects
such as remodeling and woodworking, and spending time with his wife.
Lorraine
Manciet, M.D.
Lorie was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona where graduated from the
University of Arizona with a B.A. in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Physiology.
After receiving her Ph.D. Lorie became a faculty member of the U. of A.
where she conducted research focused on the structural and functional
changes in preserved and diabetic hearts. Lorie says her most notable
achievement is raising her three exceptional sons. When her boys finished
school and were on their own, Lorie left her research career to fulfill her
dream to become a physician. After she graduated from Central American
Health Sciences University she matched her first choice with the University
of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne, where she says
“she is having the time of her life!”
Behice
Ozbay, M.D.
Behice, also known as “BJ,” completed her medical education at the
Hacettepe University in Turkey. She started her internship and residency in
Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Two years later she made the first big
move in her life to South Africa. There she completed a Tropical Medicine
and Hygiene degree at the Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg. She had
spent several exciting years at the Fever Hospital when she decided to open
her own private practice as a GP. During her time as a General Practitioner
she realized that Family Medicine was what made her a complete doctor. After
three years there she made her second big move with her family to the US.
She has since gone through many trials and has maintained a position as a PA
in a Family Medicine in Denver. Her PA experience there only increased her
desire to be a Family Medicine physician. Behice has a son and a daughter,
who she loves visiting in Denver. She enjoys traveling with her husband when
she gets a chance. Behice also finds time to pursue her hobbies which
include painting, drawing, stamping, and cycling.
Anna
Wilkins, M.D.
Anna comes to us from Los Angeles, California, but grew up in Tennessee.
She completed her bachelor’s degree at Florida State University. While
working in the pharmaceutical and medical research fields, she completed her
MBA at Pepperdine University, and decided to pursue her lifelong dream to
become a doctor. She received her MD from American University of the
Caribbean and completed her 3rd and 4th years of medical school at Kern
Medical Center in California. Anna enjoys spending time with her husband,
and just about anything outdoors, especially snowboarding.
Afsaneh Arefie,
M.D.
Better known as “Afi”, was born in a small city north of Iran. Her
travels have taken her from the Far East and Canada, Colorado and finally to
Wyoming. Afi received her MD from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and
continued her post-graduate education in the field of Anesthesiology. Afi
worked as an Anesthesiologist and Respiratory care management at an ICU for
3 years. In her spare time she worked in a field hospital providing care
to the villagers in Aliabad. These experiences confirmed her passion that
she wanted to be a primary care physician. As an avid fly fisherman, her
husband was already familiar with Wyoming’s great fishing spots. Afi
enjoys Pilates, running, bicycling, painting, and of course spending time
with her husband and two daughters.
Douglas Bell, D.O.
Douglas is the first college graduate on both sides of his family, and
in fact he is the only person that he is aware of with a Tongan background
to make it to medical school in the US. graduating from Touro University
College of Osteopathic Medicine. During college he organized both a tennis
club and taught tennis to a group of students and also taught and led a
group of students in various Polynesian dance performances. It is no wonder
that his special interests include racquetball, tennis, Polynesian dance
instruction and performance, piano, and singing. Douglas is a great asset
in the clinic as he is fluent in Spanish, which he learned while he was a
volunteering as a church representative in Venezuela for 2 years. He enjoys
spending time with his wife and young daughter.
Joan
Davis, M.D.
Joan has had the fortunate opportunity to have had two careers prior to
attending medical school. She practiced as a Chiropractic Radiologist and
was a Professor of Radiology at Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose,
California. Pursuing a medical degree was a life long dream fulfilled by
graduating from St. Christopher’s College of Medicine and beginning
residency at the UW Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne. Joan
enjoys kayaking, canoeing, hiking, gardening, home renovation projects and
the opera. She always enjoys cooking for friends.
Jeremy Eaton, D.O.
Jeremy is a native of a small farming community in Washington State. He
attended Western Washington University for his bachelors in outdoor
recreation. After working at various wilderness survival and other outdoor
programs in Idaho, Washington, Michigan and New Jersey he returned to SUNY
New Platz for pre-med and Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine
in San Francisco for medical school. Jeremy’s enjoys spending time hanging
out with his baby daughter and wife, a chiropractor who owns a clinic in Cheyenne, and being a
self-proclaimed movie freak.
Elizabeth
Green, M.D.
Liz grew up in New Mexico and Texas and received a BA from Fort Lewis
College in Durango, CO. Liz got her M.S. in kinesiology at the University
of Colorado, Boulder and her M.D. from the University of Vermont. She worked as a volunteer Wilderness EMT on Mt.
McKinley, AK, and was an instructor for Colorado Outward Bound School. She
has also worked as a mountain and trekking guide in Mexico, Peru, Kenya and
Nepal. This would explain her interest in skiing, climbing, biking, and
running. Her other interests include art, gardening, jazz and classical
music. The year prior to starting medical school she worked as a patient
care provider for Hospice of Boulder County.
Paul Monie, M.D.
Paul completed a Masters of Public Health degree along with his MD from
St. George's University School of Medicine.
His undergraduate studies were at Portland State University. Paul has been
involved in youth development and instruction, especially outdoor activities
for many years. He also spent a year during high school as an exchange
student living and studying in Japan. He describes living a life of
diversity, from jobs as different as welding, librarian, teaching, an
adventure guide in British Columbia, and a FIFA soccer referee to working in
hospitals from the West Indies to England and the United States. This would
explain his diverse interests outside the realms of medicine such as: cross
country skiing, surfing, rock climbing, kayaking, sailing, ultimate Frisbee,
photography, guitar, piano, telemark skiing, volleyball, welding, bicycling,
chess, SCUBA diving and Yoga.
Houman
Bolourian, M.D.: Houman was born in Mashad, Iran. He graduated from Semnan University of Medical Sciences in Iran. After
graduation, Houman served two required years of Military Service and had his
own private practice for a year before immigrating to the US where he lived
in Kansas City. He did research involving Parkinson’s disease at Kansas
University Medical Center. In Houman’s free time he enjoys
traveling, reading and watching sports. Houman proudly
became a US citizen in August of 2005.
Deborah
Brackett, M.D.: Debbie comes to us from
Virginia. She was a Doctor of Chiropractic for almost 13 years, practicing
in California, Maryland, Virginia and Iceland. Wanting to do more for her
patients she received her M.D. from the University of Health Sciences,
Antigua. She discovered her love for Rural Family Medicine on a clinical
rotation in Montana. Although she has lived on both sides of the country,
she missed the West and brought her family to Wyoming. Except for medical
missions she plans on remaining in Wyoming. While she enjoys medicine,
Debbie gets her greatest joy from her family; a wonderful husband and 3
great boys. When she is not at the clinic or hospital she can be found hiking
or camping, on a Boy Scout or Cub Scout function or a church activity.
Omid Dilmaghanian, M.D.:
Born in Iran, Omid was raised in
California. Omid earned his M.D. from St. Matthew’s University School of
Medicine and a Masters of Health Science Administration from St. Joseph’s
College in Maine. He became interested in research while working with
radioactive pharmaceuticals at the Brain Imaging Center in California. His
other special interest is Sports Medicine. This explains his interests
outside of medicine, which include downhill skiing, weightlifting, martial
arts, SCUBA diving and most sports in general. He also has a passion for
computers. Omid enjoys spending time with his wife, Shahzad, who is a
pharmacist.
Terese
Kincaid, M.D.: Terese was raised in a family
of nine brothers. She traveled abroad extensively as a young child. She
eventually settled in the Northwest and received both her undergraduate and
M.D. from the University of Washington. Before joining the UW Family Medicine Residency Program in Cheyenne Terese was a surgical resident at
Virginia Mason in Seattle. She especially enjoys critical care and
procedures as a part of her medical practice. Terese hopes to do Doctor’s
Without Borders when she has completed her residency training. Outside of
medicine she likes to bike, run and swim.
Karen
Leung, M.D.: Karen was born in Hong Kong, and
is a British citizen by birth, but was raised in the California Bay area.
She is the first in her family to attend college. Karen received her B.A.
from Occidental College, a M.S. from California State University Los
Angeles, and a M.D. from Ross University/Dominica. While in graduate school
she had two papers published on Reproductive Endocrinology. After graduate
school she worked as a Research Specialist II at USC and had another paper
published on Breast Cancer. Karen speaks Spanish, Cantonese Chinese and is
partially fluent in Mandarin Chinese. In her spare time she LOVES spending time in San
Francisco, Asian cooking (both her parents are chefs). She also enjoys
hiking, watching volleyball and tennis, playing her flute and tenor
saxophone (especially jazz music).
