Research Support

The Division of Research Support is an autonomous division of the College of Arts and Sciences comprised of the electronic, glass, and mechanical shops, and the chemical stockroom. These units, independently or collectively, provide service support for research.

The Glass Shop is a well equipped facility staffed by a Master Glassblower. Design assistance, as well fabrication and repair of all types of scientific glass and quartz apparatus is available. Instruction in glassblowing is offered as a course on a regular basis.

The Electronic Shop is staffed by an electrical engineer and four technicians who design and repair electronic equipment using computer-aided design and printed circuit board fabrication facilities. The Electronic Shop also provides engineering consultant and support for electro/mechanical design and computer interfacing.
The Machine Shop is staffed by one mechanical engineer and four technicians who design and repair electronic equipment using computer-aided design and printed circuit board fabrication facilities. The Electronic Shop also provides engineering consultation and support for electro/mechanical design and computer interfacing.

The Chemical Stockroom is conveniently located in the same building as the Chemistry Department, and is the central acquisition and stocking department for chemicals, equipment, and other supplies. It is staffed by a full-time coordinator and several part-time assistants.
