UV-Visible and Luminescence Spectroscopy Facilities

Several luminescence instruments are available for obtaining a variety of fluorescence and phosphorescence data from solutions and solid matrices. These include Varian-Cary 50 UV-Visible spectrophotometer and a Varian-Cary Eclipse fluorescense/phosphorescense/chemi-luminescense instruments, as well as a Perkin Elmer LS-50B, a Spex Fluorolog-2, a SLM 8000C, and a ISS Model K2 phase luminescence spectrometer. A Photon Technology International fluorescence lifetime system is available for fluorescence lifetime measurements in the hundreds of pico-seconds to hundreds of nanoseconds range. Fluorescence time-resolved spectra can be obtained with this system. The department also has a Perkin-Elmer Lamda 9 UV/VIS/NIR fully equipped spectrometer, and an Edinburgh Instrument transient adsorption spectrometer.
