Micro- and Nanofluidic Research

Our research involves combining ideas in physics and transport phenomena to develop new tools for chemical and biological analyses. We are also interested in understanding the behavior of chemical and biological molecules as they are confined within micro- and nanofabricated structures. Both theoretical and experimental methods are used in our laboratory to accomplish these research objectives. Specific projects that are currently being pursued involve (1) modeling liquid phase transport within nanometer confined spaces through a combination of continuum theory and molecular scale simulations (2) design of new separation schemes that exploit the large surface area to volume ratio in nanoscale devices.
