Creating animation for the Web can be a very different and fun diversion for designers who usually just create Web pages. It beats devising ways to annoy your coworkers. And who knows, after playing around with animation, you might find a new medium with which to express your artistic abilities. However, before you get carried away, there are a few guidelines you need to follow when using animation on your Web pages to ensure that the graphic is effective.
Keep it simple. Yes, the mantra of your Web page design should also be that of your animations. You should use animations in moderation. Incorporating several animations on a Web page can be overwhelming. Think of it this way - each additional animation proportionally reduces the effectiveness of the existing graphics on the page. Also, since animations are generally larger than other graphics, adding more animations is sure to make the pages slower to load.
