They CAN'T Hang Up - For more than 100 years the National Consumers league has been devoted to research, advocacy, and education on many consumer issues. One of these issues, particularly prevalent today, is fraud perpetrated on the elderly. According to the National Consumer League's National Fraud Information Center, nearly a third of all telemarketing fraud victims are age 60 or older. Studies by AARP show that most older telemarketing fraud victims don't realize that the voice on the phone could belong to someone who is trying to steal their money. To order or learn more about the publication They Can't Hang Up, and others, go to the National Consumer League's Web site at: http://www.nclnet.org/publications/#fraud. Also available is a brochure entitled, Don't Get Hooked by Phishers. "Phishing" is a scheme where ID thieves trick people into providing their social security numbers, financial account numbers, PIN numbers, or other personal information by pretending to be someone they're not.
