Survey Information

2009 Surveys

Small Grains Commodity Survey

Target Pests:

Autographa gamma (silver Y moth)

Lobesia botrana (grape berry moth)

Spodoptera littoralis (Egyptian cotton leafworm)

Spodoptera litura (tobacco cutworm, cluster caterpillar)

Puccinia graminis f. sp. Tritici Ug99 (black stem rust, Ug99)

Insect traps were hung by wheat and barley fields in eight counties in Wyoming between May-September 2009.  Traps were serviced monthly to check for possible target pests and to change the lure.  There were no positive identifications of any target pest.  Each trapped field was also inspected for signs of black stem rust.  Any suspect plant was sampled and each sample was checked for rust by a plant pathologist at the University of Wyoming.  No black stem rust was found; other rusts are being identified.

Invasive Aquatic Weed Survey

Target Pests:

Myriophyllum spicatum (Eurasian watermilfoil)

Potamogeton crispus (curly-leaf pondweed)

Trapa natans (water chestnut)

Hydrilla verticillata (Hydrilla)

Myriophyllum aquaticum (parrot feather milfoil)

Egeria densa (Brazilian elodea)

Teton County and Park County, which are both heavily traveled, were surveyed for aquatic pests in July and August, when aquatic nuisance plants are mature and most easily identified.
