KNOW THE LAWS

These are offenses listed by the State of Wyoming and City of Laramie. Please note offenses are not limited to those listed. University of Wyoming students may also be subject to sanctions under the University of Wyoming "Student Code of Conduct."

BOND PRICE
DUI
It is illegal for a person to drive or have actual physical control of a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or above.
$750.00, incarceration for up to 6 months.
Status Offenses
It is illegal if a person under 21 makes any attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages, possess alcoholic beverages, be under the influence of alcohol or enter and remain in a liquor establishment.

Furnishing to minors
It is illegal to sell, furnish, give, or cause to be given away any alcoholic liquor or malt beverages to any person under the age of 21.

Open Container
It is illegal to consume alcohol or carry it in open containers on any street or highway, vehicle, or any other public place within the City where alcohol is not sold.

Keg Laws
It is illegal if a person purchases a keg within the city and removes or alters the ID stamp or mark before its return to the retail liquor establishment. It is illegal if a person purchases a keg and thereafter allows consumption by minors.

Disorderly Conduct
It is illegal if a person keeps a disorderly house or suffers any drunkenness, quarrelling, fighting, riotous games or disorderly conduct on his premises.

Public Urination
It is illegal if a person urinates in the streets, sidewalks, alleys, parks, or other public places in the City.

Minors in a dwelling
It is illegal to knowingly permit consumption of alcoholic beverages by persons under the age of 21 within the premises, owned, rented, leased or occupied by the offender.

ON THE STREETS:
IN A VEHICLE:
·        You have the right to know why you are being stopped. You must accurately identify yourself to the officer if he/she has a reasonable suspicion to believe that you have been involved in criminal activity. After identifying yourself, you may, however, decline to answer further questions and you may request that you be allowed to go on your way.
·        If an officer has lawfully initiated an investigatory stop and suspects that you have a weapon, you may be "patted down." Unless you are under arrest, however, the officer does not have the right to search you further without consent or a warrant.
·        If you are under 21 years of age and there is probable cause for an officer to suspect that you have been drinking, you may be issued a citation without the officer giving you a breath test, even if you ask for one.
·        In order to stop a vehicle, an officer must have a reasonable suspicion that criminal activity is occurring or has occurred. You have the right to refuse consent if the police ask to search your vehicle, but an officer may look though the windows at anything in "plain view." If an officer has probable cause to search the vehicle, he/she may search it and any containers in it which might conceal the object of the search without consent or warrant.
·        If an officer stops you for a DUI, you may refuse a breath test or other chemical test. The officer must advise you, however, of the consequences of your refusal, that is, that your Wyoming driver's license or privilege to drive in Wyoming will be suspended for six months for a first offense.

  1. Know the people at your party.
  2. Know your rights and the law
  3. Have respect for your neighbors, landlord and lease regulations.
  4. Have at least 1 sober person to watch the door, check IDs, and drive anyone that has been drinking.
  5. Provide non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.

CHECKLIST FOR A SMART PARTY GUEST

  1. Know and obey the law
  2. Know your drinking limits. Determine in advance and keep track of the number of drinks you are going to consume.
  3. Know that open invitation parties are high risk.
  4. Attend with a friend, watch out for each other, and have a designated sober driver.
  5. Eat before, during, and after drinking
