KIN 1052 Prevention of Athletic Injury/Illness

A fall semester course which introduces the student to the profession of athletic training. The course focuses on prevention techniques as well as taping, wrapping, and padding skills that the student will need in KIN 2068

KIN 1058 Emergency Management of Athletic Injuries

A spring semester course that focuses on the emergency management of athletic injuries and illnesses. The course covers concepts of primary and secondary survey, vital signs, and the handle of health emergencies in athletics. Skill focus on the skills of vital signs, transportation, and stabilization of the injured athlete that the student will need in KIN 2078

KIN 2057 Assessment and Evaluation of Athletic Injury/Illness I

A fall semester course that focuses on evaluation techniques and methodology used in athletic training. Evaluations of Head, Neck and Upper extremity are covered. The evaluation skills and techniques learned will be need by the student in KIN 3068

KIN 2058 Assessment and Evaluation of Athletic Injury/Illness II

A spring semester course that focuses on evaluation techniques and methodology used in athletic training. Evaluations of lower extremity, low back and pelvis are covered. The evaluation skills and techniques learned will be need by the student in KIN 3078

KIN 2068 Athletic Training Clinical I

A fall semester course in which the student completes Nine weeks of clinical rotations. There are three, three-week rotations in a variety of settings and sports. The student is introduced to physician training room clinics and focuses on proficiencies learned in KIN 1052

KIN 2078 Athletic Training Clinical II

A spring semester course in which the student completes Nine weeks of clinical rotations. There are three, three-week rotations in a variety of settings and sports. The student is introduced to surgical observations and the focuses on proficiencies learned in KIN 1058

KIN 3052 Exercise and Rehabilitation in the Care of Athletic Injuries

A fall semester course in which students learn the principles of therapeutic exercise. The course provides the student with opportunities to gain knowledge in a variety of hands on rehabilitative skills. Rehabilitation skills and techniques learned will be needed by the student in KIN 4068. A student must be admitted into the professional program in athletic training to register for this course.

KIN 3058 Therapeutic Modalities for the Athletic Trainer

A spring semester course in which students learn the physics and physiology effects of the use of therapeutic modalities on the human body. The course provides the student with opportunities to gain knowledge in a variety hands on application of therapeutic modalities. Modality skills and techniques learned will be needed by the student in KIN 4088. A student must be admitted into the professional program in athletic training to register for this course.

KIN 3068 Athletic Training Clinical III

A fall semester course in which students will complete twelve weeks of clinical rotations. There are two six-week rotations. During these rotations surgical observations and physician training room clinics continue. Proficiencies focus on evaluation skills learned in KIN 2057 while continuing re-evaluations from previous semesters’ proficiencies. A student may be assigned a six-week rotation in KIN 3068 and in turn be assigned a six-week rotation in KIN 3078 from the same sport. This creates a season long experience for the student. A student must be admitted into the professional program in athletic training to register for this course.

KIN 3068 Athletic Training Clinical IV

A spring semester course in which students will complete twelve weeks of clinical rotations. There are two six-week rotations. Proficiencies focus on evaluation skills learned in KIN 2058 while continuing re-evaluations from previous semesters’ proficiencies. A student may be assigned a six-week rotation in KIN 3068 and in turn be assigned a six-week rotation in KIN 3078 from the same sport. This creates a season long experience for the student. A student must be admitted into the professional program in athletic training to register for this course.

KIN 4052 General Medical Conditions for the Athletic Trainer

A fall semester course in which students will learn the evaluation techniques, care, and management of general medical conditions that affect the physically active. The course provides the student with hands on opportunities in the evaluation of heart, lung, and bowel sounds as well as use of otoscope and ophthalmoscopes. General medical skills and techniques learned will be needed by the student in KIN 4088. A student must be admitted into the professional program in athletic training to register for this course.

KIN 4058 Pharmacology and Athletic Training Organization and Administration

A spring semester course in which students will learn the basic indications, contraindication, and management of medicines commonly used in the health care of the physical active. Additionally athletic training organization and administrative concepts will be presented. A student must be admitted into the professional program in athletic training to register for this course.

KIN 4068 Athletic Training Clinical V

A fall semester course in which students will have semester long or sixteen weeks of clinical rotations. Students who have not had a season long experience will be assigned to a sport that allows them to have a season long experience. During these rotations surgical observations and physician training room clinics continue and physician private practice clinics start. Proficiencies focus on therapeutic rehabilitation skills learned in KIN 3052 while continuing re-evaluations from previous semesters’ proficiencies. Opportunities are created during this rotation for students to follow and work with individual athletes from injury evaluation to medical care to rehabilitation and finally return to sport. A student must be admitted into the professional program in athletic training to register for this course.

KIN 4088 Athletic Training Clinical VI

A spring semester course in which students will have semester long or sixteen weeks of clinical rotations. During these rotations surgical observations and physician training room clinics continue and physician private practice clinics start. Proficiencies focus on therapeutic modality skills and general medical skills learned in KIN 3058 and KIN 4052 while continuing re-evaluations from previous semesters’ proficiencies. Opportunities are created during this rotation for students to follow and work with individual athletes from injury evaluation to medical care to rehabilitation and finally return to sport. A student must be admitted into the professional program in athletic training to register for this course.
