The athletic training curriculum is divided into two phases. The first phase
is the pre-professional coursework. This encompass a student's first four
semesters in the program. During this time the student completes the
entry-level athletic training courses and the beginning of their athletic
training clinicals. During the athletic training clinicals the student is
able to apply your academic learning in a hands on athletic training
setting.
Application to the professional phase of the ATEP is made during the
student's fourth semester. Once admitted into this phase of the athletic
training program the student has increased opportunities for sport coverage
as well as increasing opportunities to apply and use the athletic training
knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.
The professional phase of the program takes four semesters to complete. Once
this is completed you will graduate form the college of Health Sciences,
Division of Kinesiology, with an Bachelors of Science degree. The diploma
reads Kinesiology and Health Promotion-Athletic Training. The Athletic
Training program received CAAHEP approval in the Spring of 2005. Graduating
students are then qualified to sit for the athletic training certification
test. This test, give by the NATA-BOC, tests the students knowledge and
skills as an athletic trainer. Upon passing this exam the student is granted
the credential “ATC”. With this credential they can practice the profession
of athletic training in a variety of practice settings across the country.
